vista build 5308 60

Vista build 5308.60

Is there any truth in the stories circulating that there was a newer "trunk build 60" released to beta testers to fix major memory leak issues with build 5308.11 (build 5308 trunk 11)?
John

Its no different from .60 except that Longhorn Server 5308 is finally included, also, its an unstaged build, which means it will take longer to install. Some persons are seeing installs on this build that range from 50 mins to 2.5 hours, so if you have the time, go ahead, download it. -- -- Andre Windows Connect | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

But does this build .60 increase general overall peformance at all...literally?

Well... Andre's right to some degree yeh, however a .60 release was set on Connect a few days after the original .17 release because some people had major troubles installing onto partitions and having general errors with Setup - so yeh that's the main reason why they re-released it because simply, a lot of people couldn't even install it.
Pretty much no performance issues will be made until Beta 2/April CTP.

Thanks Zack & Andre,
I gave up with build 5270 as I couldn't get it installed onto a dual-boot partition with XP with error after error during install.
I managed to get build 5308.17 installed at about the 3rd attempt, so .60 will be of no benefit to me if I've read your info correct.
I thought I read that .60 may sort out some of the memory-leak issues which are causing this build to be so slow, even on a high-spec machine.
Thanks.

I think the major differences between .17 and .60, is that .60 is unstaged, and .17 is not. .60 includes Longhorn Server code, .17 does not. -- -- Andre Windows Connect | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

The only site where you can download Vista betas legally is MSDN / Microsoft Connect. Every non-Microsoft site allowing you to download Vista should not exist, well, they're not authorized. The beta is "free", it just needs you to have a MSDN subscription including MS OSes (which is not free, of course)

GrabIt + GigaNews Platinum + Free

You obtain it through the following channels: http://msdn.microsoft.com/subscriptions/ http://www.microsoft.com/technet/abouttn/subscriptions/default.mspx
I don't know about discounts, that was Windows XP, this is Windows Vista, times change.
The April CTP should be a Public release which should be available under Customer Preview Program free of charge or at a nominal fee for those who want to receive it on media. I am sure some time during the beta and leading up to and after RTM, there will be numerous online web cast discussing Windows Vista. So, you just have to be patient. -- -- Andre Windows Connect | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta
